The Kamon Tachibana, representing the flower or fruit of the mandarin tree (Citrus tachibana), is also a Japanese family crest used by several samurai families. As with the Kamon Omodaka, it is important to remember that Kamon are not exclusive to any one family. Here are some notable samurai and warrior families who used the Kamon Tachibana:

  1. Tachibana Family (立花氏) :
    • The Tachibana family is probably the most famous for using the Tachibana Kamon. Originally from Kyushu, this family played an important role during the Sengoku period and the Edo period. Their history is closely linked to that of the Minamoto and Taira clans.
  2. Shimazu Family (島津氏) :
    • Although the Shimazu family is more often associated with other Kamon, it is possible that some branches used the Tachibana Kamon, particularly due to their historical ties to the Tachibana family.
  3. Konoe Family (近衛家) :
    • The Konoe family, an aristocratic family of the imperial court, also used variations of the Kamon Tachibana. Although not samurai in the traditional sense, the Konoe had considerable influence in the political and cultural affairs of Japan.
  4. Families related to the Tachibana :
    • Other minor families or branches that had ties to the main Tachibana family also adopted the Kamon Tachibana, either through marriage or adoption.

The Tachibana Kamon is often chosen for its beauty and simplicity, symbolizing purity, elegance, and prosperity. Interestingly, in Japanese culture, the adoption and modification of Kamon by different families often reflects political alliances, marriages, and changes in social status over time.

Description:

This antique Japanese kimono, made of authentic 100% black silk, is a historical garment of great value. Once worn by samurai under their "Yoroi" armor, this type of kimono has become a rarity in Japan, its production having ceased. Its rarity makes it all the more valuable, and it is now acquired mainly by foreign tourists visiting Japan.

Japanese men wear it only on special occasions, such as wedding ceremonies or other special events. Due to its high cost when new, it is frequently purchased or rented in polyester or tetron versions.

In keeping with martial tradition, this kimono is ideal to be worn as a keikogi, accompanied by a gray striped Shima umanori hakama, when practicing disciplines such as Iaido, Kenjutsu or Batto jutsu. It represents a historical treasure, embodying Japanese craftsmanship and culture, while carrying the stories of a bygone era.

Every fold, every seam, and every pattern of this kimono tells a story, making it a priceless collectible for Japanese history buffs and martial arts enthusiasts. Whether for a personal collection, for ceremonial use, or for martial arts practice, this antique kimono is a unique piece that transcends time and continues to tell its story.
